A Timeless Kentucky Wedding at First Christian Church & EKU | Mattie Jo + Reese

Jul 3, 2026

Some wedding days are extra special, and this was certainly one of them.

I’ve known Mattie Jo for years. She was one of my Senior Spokesmodels and even spent time babysitting my girls when we lived in Kentucky. But our connection goes back even further than that. Her mom was one of my teachers in school, and her dad worked alongside my mom for years. I’ve truly had the privilege of knowing and loving this family for so long, so being asked to photograph Mattie Jo and Reese’s wedding was incredibly meaningful. Watching her grow into the incredible woman she is today and then having the honor of capturing one of the biggest days of her life was something I’ll never forget. It truly felt like photographing family.

Their day began at the breathtaking First Christian Church, one of the most beautiful churches in Kentucky. With its soaring ceilings, timeless architecture, and stunning stained-glass windows, every corner of the church felt elegant and full of history. It created the most beautiful setting for Mattie Jo and Reese to promise forever to one another.

Before the ceremony, the two shared one of my favorite moments of the day—a private vow exchange without seeing each other. Standing on opposite sides of a doorway, they held hands and read heartfelt words they had written just for one another. Reese’s emotions completely overflowed as he said his, and there wasn’t a dry eye nearby. These quiet, intimate moments are always some of my favorites because they allow couples to slow down and soak in the meaning of the day before everything begins.

After they officially became husband and wife, we took advantage of the incredible beauty inside the church for their bridal portraits. The natural light pouring through the stained glass created such a timeless and romantic atmosphere.

From there, we made our way to Eastern Kentucky University’s beautiful campus. We wandered through some of the most picturesque locations as the evening sunlight turned into the most gorgeous golden hour. Mattie Jo and Reese laughed together, soaked in those first moments as newlyweds, and simply enjoyed being together. Those quiet moments always become some of the sweetest memories.

While we were exploring campus, guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the lower lobby of the Keen Johnson Building before making their way upstairs to the ballroom for the reception.

As the newlyweds made their grand entrance, the room absolutely erupted with excitement. Guests twirled their napkins high above their heads, cheered at the top of their lungs, and welcomed the new Mr. and Mrs. with so much joy. It was the perfect way to kick off an unforgettable evening.

The reception was filled with heartfelt speeches, emotional dances, and so many meaningful moments shared with the people who love them most. Once the formalities were over, the dance floor opened—and it stayed packed all night long. The laughter, celebration, and energy in the room perfectly reflected the incredible love surrounding Mattie Jo and Reese.

Mattie Jo and Reese, thank you from the bottom of my heart for trusting me to capture this incredible chapter of your story. It has been such a gift watching your journey over the years, and seeing you marry the love of your life was an honor I’ll cherish forever. I pray your marriage is filled with endless laughter, unwavering faith, countless adventures, and a lifetime of beautiful memories together. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs.!
