Shelby and Cameron’s wedding was unique for a few reasons… the biggest being this was not the first time they were getting married! Before you jump to conclusions, let me clarify. Amidst ever changing plans and conditions, Shelby and Cameron got married in a small, intimate ceremony in summer of 2020 due to covid changing everyones plans. Not only did I get to capture this sweet ceremony, but they invited me back to capture their dream day once more as they got to celebrate again with more friends and family. What an amazing opportunity to capture this beautiful couple and the love they share not once, but twice?!
Another special and unique element of Shelby and Brandon’s celebration is that they were playing two important roles on this day. Not only were they “bride and groom”, but they were also the owners of the beautiful venue. Shelby and her sisters own and operate SMK Agricultural Venue together. The letters in the name represent each of their initials as a special touch. They opened the venue on their family’s property in plans and preparation for Shelby and Cameron’s day — but now other couples get to enjoy the gorgeous venue as well! When I photographed their original ceremony last year, the building was still under construction and undergoing finishing touches, so when I returned this year I felt like I was walking into an entirely new venue. The finished product left me speechless and awestruck with all the nice features, such as the fireplace and walls full of windows, offering natural light.
For portraits and bridal party photos, we ventured around the property seeing more that their amazing venue had to offer. From beautiful greenery, fences, and the tree-lined drive that made for plenty of photo options–which we definitely utilized–my favorite had to be the horses. We entered a vast field through the gate, careful to watch our step, and fawned over the horses as they approached. They were the most cooperative models, posing with the bride and groom, like this was not their first rodeo. One of the horses had been Shelby’s horse growing up, which made these photos all the more special. These ended up being some of my favorite images from the day. Nothing could be a better definition of a true Kentucky wedding than this day!
Their day(take two) included the iconic scenery of the bluegrass, horses, and not to mention the amazing band at the reception who kept the mood light with any country song you could think of! Shelby also surprised Cameron by switching into another dress at the reception and his reaction was the cutest! We ended the night with a sparkler exit, as the couple made their way to the party bus to continue the celebration into the night!
Shelby and Cameron, I cannot thank you enough for allowing me to capture your day again, for a second time! It could not have been a more perfect celebration of your love and one year of marriage. I hope it was everything you dreamed of and more, and worth the wait! Please enjoy a few of my favorites!
